In 2016 we saw a program on a German private TV station with the title: RIP-OFF IN AMERICA!
The story: A German went to a travel agency in MIAMI and rented a convertible. The basic rental price was already exorbitantly high and the agent forced him to buy various extras and insurances.
The entire TV report was, in our opinion, very biased and aimed at stirring up sentiment against the USA.
If you follow our SUGGESTTIONS, you won't experience any nasty surprises:
  • Always rent the rental car from Europe - either through a regional travel agency or through this SEARCH ENGINE (which we usually use ourselves) - and also note our tips further down on this page.
If you have a complicated rental (e.g. avoiding one-way rentals across several states), call the BAHNSEN travel agency. They will help you: +49-30-9333-112.
  • Check with the respective agent which rental car companies they represent. We prefer ALAMO and avoid DOLLAR.
  • Rent at least 14 days before departure. Renting more than 6 months ahead doesn't make sense either. Get at least 1 million liability insurance. Take the car with a full tank and return it full.

  • We look for the best conditions from several providers. We always start with these companies...
